Carly is a licensed professional counselor and is thrilled to be part of the team at BeginWithin! She has been working as a clinician since 2012, focusing her career and studies on working with eating disordered clients since 2007. Carly graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Bio-Evolutionary Psychology. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Monmouth University. During that time, she worked in various settings, interning with populations including children and adolescents affected by abuse in the Family Growth Program at Catholic Charities and clients working on social skills with autism spectrum disorders at IEP Youth Services.
Following earning her master’s degree, Carly worked as a Primary Therapist at the Eating Disorders Unit at Robert Wood Johnson: Somerset for three years, treating an acute population of patients struggling with eating disorders in both the inpatient and partial hospitalization units. She also worked at the Center for Discovery in their partial hospitalization program. In addition, she has worked in private practice for over ten years, focusing on clients of all ages struggling with eating disorders and body image illnesses, as well as mood, self-esteem, and other related issues. This range of experience in different levels of care has allowed her to help clients at various phases of their recovery journeys effectively.
She hopes to bring compassion and empathy to each counseling relationship, understanding the many intricacies and differences among each person struggling with their eating disorder. Her goal is to help each individual identify and create the behavioral change necessary for recovery while providing safety and connection in the therapeutic relationship to allow for healing and exploration of underlying issues that may be contributing to their disorder.
In her spare time, Carly enjoys spending time with her husband and sons in Long Beach Island and returning to Penn State football games to cheer on the Nittany Lions!
